Relational Databases

Linking relational databases with hybrid solutions

ZOPYX is a recognised expert in the efficient linkage of relational databases like Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL with object-oriented Python and Zope applications.  The object-relational mapper SQLAlchemy is the tool primarily deployed in achieving this.  SQLAlchemy introduces an abstraction layer between the application and the database.  Operations like insert, delete, refresh and search are made directly accessible within the application via Python functions.

The removal of need for SQL expressions to be created manually eliminates a significant source of error in the linkage of relational databases with object-oriented systems.  Thus, ZOPYX is able to achieve a substantial increase in stability and productivity.

In addition, ZOPYX develops hybrid database solutions in which the advantages of a relational database are combined with those of an object-oriented ZODB.  This approach has proven its worth repeatedly in the case of e.g. multimedia databases, where metadata is held in the relational database and image data is stored as blobs in the ZODB.

We have relied on Plone since 2005 for maintaining the team's web presence and for managing scientific projects at the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory.

Thanks to Andreas Jung's expertise, Plone migration was completed in a minimal amount of time and Plone products were adapted optimally to meet our requirements.
